9 Dead in Mass Shooting at Tumbler Ridge High School

Western Canada is in mourning after a brutal shooting incident rocked British Columbia on Wednesday (February 11, 2026). A series of attacks at a high school and a residence have claimed the lives of nine people and left at least 25 others injured.

The primary focus of the attacks occurred at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, located north of Vancouver. At this location, security officers found six victims inside the school building. A tense atmosphere enveloped the evacuation after an additional victim was pronounced dead en route to the hospital.

The incident did not stop at the school. Not far from the first location, police found two more bodies inside a residence.

At this time, authorities believe the two shootings are connected, although further investigation is ongoing to determine the motive.

The main suspect in the attacks reportedly died at the scene. His body was found inside the school building with wounds believed to be self-inflicted. Amateur video footage captured the emotional moment as students were evacuated from the building under heavy police guard.

Regarding the perpetrator’s identity, authorities claimed to have complete details but have not yet released his name or gender to the public. However, a shelter-in-place alert distributed to residents at the time of the incident described the suspect as “a woman wearing a dress with brown hair.”

The students’ bravery amidst the death threat was highlighted in this tragedy. One Tumbler Ridge Secondary School student recounted to the CBC what happened inside the classroom when the shooting occurred. He and his classmates reacted quickly by moving heavy desks to barricade the classroom door to prevent the perpetrator from entering.

A strong response came from high levels of the Canadian government. Prime Minister Mark Carney stated that he was “devastated” and deeply affected by this tragedy. Meanwhile, British Columbia Premier David Eby expressed his appreciation for the swift response of police officers, who he believes prevented far more casualties.

“The swift response of officers on the ground ensured that this tragedy did not escalate into something far worse than what we are witnessing now,” he said.

The Tumbler Ridge area remains under tight security. A federal investigative team has been deployed to scour the entire area to gather additional evidence and provide psychological support to survivors and the families of the victims.
